Over at the Cleverest they've had an interesting mathematical experiment using Google.
Benford's law states that if you gather random numbers from real life (that's an important bit), the chance of any random number out of that collection starting with a 1 is much higher than the others.
Sounds boring but it's actually quite an entertaining read, and raises a few questions as well.
Where's the attraction in sequential numbers, do people find it more intimidating starting with a higher one? Does 10001 sound less frightening than 9999 when buying stuff?
