It seems as if every adventurous sport or outdoor activity is getting it's own urban version these days.
Golf became urban golf with a different set of rules (and clubs), snowboarding becomes an urban activity with locally constructed ramps, rails and imported snow for jib-contests, freeclimbing and acrobatics gets a city outlook in parkour, street and city football tournaments are growing in importance every year,...
A lot of these urban versions claim some kind of raw originality, stripping the original sport of ornamental (think golf clothes) or less practical parts (big terrains, mountain faces,...) and bring a version that can be enjoyed by a much broader audience: simplification and democratisation.
They add their own urban style elements as well: live djs, a relaxed attitude, a certain clothing style,...
WESC (We Are the Superlative Conspiracy), a clothing brand/collective are publishing a book on Streethorsing, which seems a bit impractical but what do I know, I wouldn't even know how to ride one under normal conditions. The guys at Coolhunting where I found the link are not sure whether it's a hoax either, but in light of the trend described above it wouldn't even seem too far off... There's at least one other site though (not that it reveals anything so it could still be part of a more elaborate plan).
Any thoughts on whether this one is genuine? Or other sports that are getting their own urban version? Or should be getting one?
