It's not that hard to find articles describing groups you feel you belong to as new and hip phenomena but you mostly find them in glossy magazines, coupled with a pages full of accesories, books, cd's and other stuff you should own... It's nice to read something insightful for a change.
New York Metro has a great article titled Up with Grups, talking about 40-year-old men and women who look, talk, act, and dress like people who are 22 years old.
What caught my attention is the fact that I wasn't really interested until they started talking about she and her. After all, the "boys and toys" syndrome (coupled with Peter Pan syndrome) has always been acknowledged. But female liberation and emancipation finally caught up and gives us women who jostle for position in front of the tellie, the games consoles, the good cd trays in record stores, snowboard and ski lift lines,...
As long as men were the only ones refusing to grow up, it was just an eccentric streak. But since Sex and the City (among others; no worries, the article is not about singles again) showed us that girls have their own fads, toys and other needs outside of household and careers it's finally recognised as a legitimate trait.
Could it be true that trends only become trends once women indulge in the activities as well? As soon as the 'serious (or responsible) gender' gets involved, it's worth looking into?
Oops, got carried away there... great article nonetheless (and thanks to Toon, one of our account managers, for sending me the link).
