After some fairly hysteric rants on Bully, GTA and supposedly killer trainers, the idiot's debate on videogames seems to have settled down again to make way for intelligent people standing up and doing their thing.
First there was Steven Johnson with his excellent 'Everything bad is good for you' who points to an interesting article in the new edition of Wired which is completely devoted to gaming (compiled by Will Wright, famed for all things Sim), and a recent post on Influx Insights pointing to a wealth of information concerning gaming and the positive sides.
It's clear that gaming and games imagery and mechanics have become a fixed part of our cultural memory, and it shines through in some advertising ideas. I should have some examples lying around but it might take me some time to find them and upload them, so that will be something for a follow-up post.
